Hedley Lyrics

LIKE ME - HEDLEY

I need something to believe in
And I need something to feel.
I need something to rely on
And I need something that´s real.
I won´t slit another neck here
And I won´t play your little games.
Cause I´ve got nothing on the inside
And it´s driving me insane.
If you understand what it means to fly
When you feel like me.
And you understand what it feels to cry
When you feel
Alone,
Like me.
Alone like me.
Alone like me.
Alone like me.
And I don´t care about your army
And I don´t care about what you´ve got.
You can come at me with everything
Cause I´ve got nothing left to lose.
And inside of me is hallow
Full of petty pointless rhymes.
I got nothing on the inside
And I´m running out of time.
And if I apologize once more
I would hate myself.
Just to cry
When you feel
Alone
Like me.
Alone like me.
Alone like me.
Alone like me.

This is a song by a Canadian band, Hedley. This song, Like Me, was never released. It is not on their album and the only version I have is a live one that i recorded when I went to see them in a small concert in a small venue. I don´t know what it is about this song, I could hear it over and over again and never tire of it. I just find it so relaxing. Try to look uo Hedley and listen to them and then tell me what you think of them. I heard a single of them on a radio here in Portugal so that was great for me and even better for them.

Here´s another...

WHAT SMILES CAN´T AFFORD - HEDLEY

You´ll be laughing when I´m gone
You´ll be smiling before long.
I sold you all that you can hold
My love struck story is getting old.
You said wait more day
So I lied and said okay.
You turned tucked tail and ran
Getting there is half the fun.
You´ll be laughing when I´m gone
You´ll be smiling before long.
I sold you all that you can hold
My sidewalk story is getting old.
You said wait one more day
So I lied and said okay.
You turned tuck tailed and ran
Getting there is half the fun.
So you took all I had
Made me smile,
Made me run.
Well you break all my dreams
Then you said here me scream.
Will I make you
Will I make you
run.
Run I will make you
Run I will make you
Run I will make you
Make me fall and...

and here is another...the last one...

`A´SONG

They put us to work
The anvilbrigade.
The angels lost track when we started to fade.
Believing is seeing, you're seeming okay.
I´ve seen men lose their love at the end of the rain.
More than a fighting chance I've got
Seems like I'm losing out a lot.
Maybe the sun still knows my name
I'll walk on my own two feet again.
I´m just a clean cut individual,
This ain't no second class residual
And from the bottom I can feel you screaming
You turn your face to the rain,
I see you smiling again.
Maybe there'll be no more pain,
The day we all go insane.
They made us create,
They made us run farther,
They made us believe there was no one to bother.
It feels like I'm old,
It seems like I'm colder.
She came in a box,
Iloved and I sold her.
More than a fighting chance I've got
Seems like I'm losing out a lot.
Maybe the sun still knows my name.
I'll walk on my own two feet again.
I´m just a clean cut individual,
This ain´t so second class residual.
From the bottom I can feel you screaming.
You turn your face to the rain,
I see you smiling again.
Maybe they´ll be no more pain,
The day we all go insane.

hope you guys liked my favourite lyrics, I know they are a little bit dark but if you listen to the music you will probably fall in love with it as I did. =)

I miss summer

Well, a semester has passed us by...already. In one semester so many things have changed for me and I believe that for all of you as well. So many times I think about how much I miss Canada and my friends and my life there. But then I think some more. I am in love with Portugal. It´s the kind of love that I know will be everlasting, that will never change. I think of all the people I have met here and all the friendships I have made. One of the many things that has changed in my life since University is that I ended a two and a half year relationship. And the funny thing is that I am fine with that. I feel as though I have so much to live for and I am young and I have a lifetime ahead of me. So there you have it. Me spilling my heart out on this blog. Believe it or not this blog has helped me to get to know all of you and I feel like I know something about each and every one of you. This blog has even helped me and all of us to speak to each other out of the classroom walls. To get to know each other, some better than other. University, in my opinion is a milestone. We will grow up a little more and see life for what it is. Hearts will be broken and with time mended. Friendships will be made, maybe even for a lifetime. We will remember good times that we all had together and funny times and sad times. University is a time of change and I am so happy that I am here and that I have met each and every one of you. Who knows what will happen in the future. The only advice I can give you all is live for the moment and don´t think too much about what will be and how things will turn out. Things normally turn out alright and then at that moment all we really have are memories that make us smile. Memories are the best thing one can have. Remembering the good times. Don´t remember the days, remember the moments and how that one moment changed your life. I have good moments that have changed my life for the better and now here I am, a happy person. Happy to be living one of my dreams in a beautiful country, meeting new people everyday. I´m sitting here at home freezing and I am just wishing that it were summer. But then again, I know that it will come sooner than later. So I am writing this for all of you to know how I feel and that I am glad I met you all. See you around University =)

It´s All Understood - Jack Johnson

Everyone laughed at her joke
As if they'd never even heard it before
And maybe they were truly amused
But every word that she spoke was a bore
And maybe it's because they had seen
The previews on the TV screen
Well this part is good and that's well understood
So you should laugh if you know what I mean
But it's all relative
Even if you don't understand
Well it's all understood
Especially when you don't understand
Then it's all just because
Even if we don't understand
Then lets all just believe
Everyone knows what went down
Because the news was spread all over town
And fact is only what you believe
And fact and fiction work as a team
It's almost always fiction in the end
That content begins to bend
When context is never the same
And it's all relative
Even if we don't understand
And it's all understood
Especially when we don't understand
Then it's all just because
Even if we don't understand
Then lets all just believe
I was reading a book
Or maybe it was a magazine
Suggestions on where to place faith
Suggestions on what to believe
But I read somewhere
That you've got to beware
You can't believe anything you read
But the good Book is good
And it's all understood
So don't even question
If you know what I mean
But it's all relative
Even if you don't understand
Well it's all understood
Especially when you don't understand
And it's all just because
Even if we don't understand
Then lets all just believe
But there you go once again
You missed the point and then you point
Your fingers at me
And say that I said not to believe
I believe
I guess
I guess it's all relative

I love this song. I don´t really know why. But the music is just so powerful. I just thought I might as well share it with you guys. Hope you all like it

What should I do? Should I call him back and tell him that I am in love with him and I am simply devoted to him and only him? I really don´t know what to do. I don´t want to marry this mysterious Anura Perera, let alone go live with him in Australia. For all I know he could be some fat, bald, sweaty old man. Only time will tell. These were my thoughts two years ago when I hung up with Vijay. I met Anura. He got to my house about an hour after speaking to Vijay. He was everything that Amma wanted for me. He could give me a great life, full of opportunities. So I went with him to Australia. And now here I am, two years later, wishing I had never left home, wishing I had never left Vijay. This is my life now. I stay at home telling the maids what to do and I see myself transforming into an egocentric housewife. I go to the mall every day and I go to the hairdresser every week. But, even with all the things that I have in my life. Something is missing and I don´t quite know what it is. I feel empty. Amma is coming to visit me today. I´ll be going to the airport soon to pick her up. She says she has a surprise for me. To be honest, nothing surprises me anymore. Anura is a great man but he does not love me and I do not love him. He is my partner, but he is more like a business associate than a husband. I´m waiting at the airport. Anura took the afternoon off and is holding some mysterious envelope. Finally, I see Amma. Someone is behind her. Someone tall. It can´t possibly be Vijay, my eyes must be fooling me. It is Vijay. What is going on here? Amma gives me a big hug and I look at Anura and he has a smile on his face and hands me the envelope. In it I find the divorce papers. "I´ve missed you," said Vijay. "And...I love you." I simply hugged him and I hugged Anura for knowing what I really wanted. Two weeks later I was back at home. The emptiness faded and I felt complete. I am happy now and I am happy that Amma accepted Vijay for who he was and not how big his bank account was. I´m working now. I have no maids. There are no more daily trips to the mall and weekly trips to the hairdresser. Every morning I wake up and I am so grateful for having Vijay. He makes my day when he smiles. It has been ten years. I´ve been through many hard times with Vijay. I have two marvelous children and a decent home in the outskirts of the city. I have a garden with flowers and a white picket fence. I am not rich but I am happy and even after all these years, I feel that I am still in love with Vijay and so happy that he came to surprise me when I was living in Australia. I am not rich in money, but I am wealthy in a way that no one can explain. I have been with Vijay for 30 years now. The children went off to University. Vijay bought a house on the beach. We are atill in love. He makes dinner on the beach every night. My life is complete. I could not ask for more. Vijay still makes tht special dish of his, fantastic, with those big prawns.

The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (lies)

Amazing....

The Gossip - Standing in the way of control

hot!hot!hot!

A little bit of warm on this cold days...

this foto was taking at my house in Sobral do Campo! I wish i was there because in here it's freezing and i don't have a fire!!!

Sobral do Campo

This is a foto from Sobral do Campo. The little village were I often go. It is near Castelo Branco.
In here you can drink beer for only 0,50 cents!!! It’s amazing! You can stay one night drinking without even pay anything because people there have a way of doing that: you pay one round then another person pay’s the round and so on…
It’s great there…but it can be tedious because there’s not much to entertain you in there but I still love to go there. The peace to I have there…I just sleep until 12 or 1p.m. because it is very quite in there.
They have great traditions at Christmas, at Easter and at summer they do the traditional party with bands and fireworks…they’re not the best party’s on the area but they’re great anyway because in the party we get to see people that we don’t see during the year and the people that are in France and other countries.
I wouldn’t change this village for other.

What am I doing? Why did I put the phone down? He won't ring again. I'm loosing the man I really love. I have to do anything to cange this. How could I let this affect my relation with Vijay? I should have done something a long time ago. It's time to make things right. But it's hard to do it when you have your mother always saying that you have to go for the best you can and Vijay...Hum...He's not "the best" for me according to my mum. She will never see him as I do.
On the one hand, I have my feelings for Vijay but on the other, I have my "dutie" to my mum and I can't go against her.
I know it! Deep in my heart I know what I have to do! I have to run away from home. If I don't do this, I end uo married to a rich guy that I barely know and that I don't like at all!
I went upstairs to my room to get something to dress because I was ironning. that Jade green saree that Amma bought me to impress Anura tonight. Now, I just don't care about Amma, Anura or myself. What I really want is to see Vijay one nore time, just one more time. If I really have to marry Anura my last wish is to see Vijay. That's all that I ask for!
I got out from the back door and I run and Run as fast as I could until I lost sight from my house. It was almost night and I got a little scared but the feeling of Vijay kept me anxious and away from fear. I could not stop thinking of Vijay's invitation to have dinner with me.
At last, I saw the beach. I got near Vijay's house and I knocked. I herad Vijay get close it and his smooth voice asking "who is it?" "It's me?" I answered. He opened the door and said "Would you like to come in?" "Of course" "so did you decide to accept my invitation, huh?" "I'm glad you did it" and he smiled. He did it in a way that I didn't know. He seemed so happy. Was this love? Was he in love with me? I wanna believe he was. We had a great time together, that night. i can't forget it. After our dinner, I went home and I found my mum crying. Not because of me but because of Anura, he waited 3 hours for me and I didn't show up so he left. I could not believe it! The man was gone and now I coube be happy with Vijay. Nor Amma nor anyone could torn us apart. Now we were together for the best. Nothing could separate us anymore.

Bernardo Sassetti is a Portuguese pianist he was born in Lisbon in 1970 and his career started in 1987. Since then he has completed many projects and he is recognized by playing his jazz music and performing in many duets with some well-known celebrities, in many countries, and some of them participated in Sassetti’s albums.
His passion on classic music started when he was nine, then all of a sudden he knew he wanted to learn how to play classic piano. In order to learn how to play piano he went to a professional school called “Academia dos Amadores de Música” and also had the opportunity to improve his skills and became an expert. He dedicates himself deeply into jazz music but he has “other passions”.
It is confirmed that he is notorious for being skillful. He writes music for the cinema and he is a photographer, although he hasn’t yet become an expert on that matter.
He continues to play his music at some local clubs and at innumerable festivals and obviously the crucial element of Sassetti’s music is absolutely the jazz music. It is well-known that in Portugal Jazz music isn’t valued like it is in America; jazz has a long path to go through. However, at 37 year-old he already has released many albums. His first album was released in April 94. Since then he has been recording his work in Portuguese and in English. Recently, about four years ago, he has been on a project: producing some music for the cinema. Sassetti said in an interview what he has been doing and why he has been devoting himself into cinema’s music, “The cinema fascinates me. (…) I need the image, the colour and the face of the characters to compose the music”.
His records: "Ao vivo no Guimarães jazz"; "Dundumbanza"; "Tibiri tabara"; "Impressões" and "Olhar"; "Passagem"; "What love is"; "Ecos de África"; "Sons do Brasil"; "Mundos"; "Fragments (Of Cinematic Illusion)"; "Entropé"; “4 Movimentos Soltos"; "Indigo"; "Livre" and “Ascent” were his latest solo music. Furthermore, he was also nominated for The Mercury Awards 95.
It is concluded that Portuguese people appears to be more into rock music and hip-hop than into jazz. Even so, Bernado Sassetti had never given up on his music and he still plays.

Squeeze Theeze PleezeSqueeze Theeze Pleeze is a Portuguese band. They are from Cantanhede and they came into the music business in 1996, although their formation happened two years after that. Farinha, one of the guitar-players “At the beginning, we all had different projects in mind. Later, we decided to get together and start to build a sound, and finally, we made the band. New people started to join us. It was the beginning of the accomplishment of a common dream that we always had”.The name ‘Squeeze Theeze Pleeze’ has a bizarre sonority that makes everybody caught when they hear it. The choice for that name ‘has to do with me’ says Farinha and he continues ‘when I was little, I had a t-shirt with two lemons that said squeeze theeze pleeze. Then, we decided to give that name to our band. We like it because of the phonetic conjugation of the z’s and the e’s.Like all bands, these five boys – Assalino (vocals), Miro Vaz (guitar-player and producer), Pedro Fonseca (guitar-player), J.Boy and Farinha (bass)- who form Squeeze Theeze Pleeze have their own musical preferences. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus and also Foo Fighters are just some of the references that influence the music they make. This band, with a music style of pop rock, has its latest album ‘Flatline’. Their first single was one of the sounds of the year 2003.With their music on tv series such as “morangos com açucar” and with the single ‘Hi, Hello (my name is Joe)’ on the radio, they are widely recognized in Portugal.Their first album ‘Ode to a child’ was well known by the Portuguese audience. They’re expecting that this new one follows the same way that the first one.Sueeze Theeze Pleeze has the power of several bands. However, they want to transmit feelings and sensations through their music.Their song music is daily stories that can be adapted to the life of each individual. People can identify themselves with what they are listening to or simply with what the music itself transmits.Squeeze Theeze Pleeze is not only for a certain audience. It is for all ages.Their second single ‘D Song’ will be released soon.Squeeze Theeze Pleeze passed through good (forming the band) and band (losing a band element) experiences but they continue to be considered one of the greatest Portuguese bands of the moment.

The lasted from UK

The chaos arrived at the celebrity big brother in England.
As you may now, people are talking about racism against Shilpa Shetty, Indian actress of Bolywood films.
The case has already arrived to the Indian Government and the British Government.
Well… I just found the case interesting and so, I went to the youtube.com and search for some videos and it is clear that Shilpa is not welcome to the celebrity’s house, racism or not, they’re making her life harder inside there.
From the videos at youtube.com we can’t really say were the all thing began but it seems that they found Shilpa’s accent funny and they’re some of the residents that are being horrible to her.
Is it possible that in the 21st century racism or a case like this one is possible to exist?
When we all are going to live like equals? That is sad and they already say that India is going to cut relations with the UK… let’s see what is going to happen but in my opinion…Shipa is going to win the Celebrity’s Big Brother (just remember the Portuguese case of Zé Maria… at the end the “weaks” always win!)

http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/live/index.jsp?articleMask=&housemateId=&week=&pageNo=3 and check the video's section

i just know today that Shilpa has won the Big Brother!!eh eh a kick in the a** for the other's!!go shilpa...go shilpa!!!!!

British (New) Bands!

I just love some of the British new bands; i really love their sound (that for me is different from the American bands (but they are some American bands that I really appreciate!).
English bands like Muse, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs; Placebo, and the Editors are on my Mp3 player.

The Muse already count with four albums. For me the best one is Absolution but they are all great. I had the pleasure to see them at the Super Bock Super Rock Festival in 2004.

The second album of Bloc Party is going to be released next month (but I already have it (thank you e-mule!!)) I can say that is as great as the first one and I’ve already my ticket to their concert at the Coliseu dos Recreios the 18th of May : D I just can’t wait!!!

Franz Ferdinand have two albums. They are very good on stage but well…not very different from a gig to another because I just saw a concert on the Mtv before I saw them last year at the Super Bock Festival and the gig as pretty much the same. But their music is greeeaaattttt!

Kaiser Chiefs…well….nice music to dance will your making the cleaning at home. Lol.

Placebo is not a New band, they already have 5 albums of originals. But it is one of my favourite bands as well as the Muse. Never saw them acting live and they just came last year to perform but well… I didn’t got the chance

And The Editors just gave a great gig at the super bock festival last year, I think that they just surprised everyone and they stayed surprise as well because it was the first time that they were performing in Portugal and the audience just know all their songs lyrics.
For me it was even better then the Franz Ferdinand gig.

Well this with was just to share with you some of my music taste and to see if there’s anybody there that appreciates the same bands as I do.

I have others that I like to hear at the moment like Radiohead, Gnarls Barkley, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, She Wants Revenge (a very nice album from the first music until the last one), The Killers, Arcade Fire, and others.

Just hope you to share your tastes with me and to introduce me some new music. I just love to discover new sound and new bands.
I know that there are great bands out there but sometimes I just don’t have patient to look out for them.

By the way if you like some of this British bands and this type of music and if you have the chance, take a look at the MTV2 at the TVcabo FUNTASTIC LIVE, because this channel is the MTV at the UK (I suppose ) and just puts on good music.

Cheers!!

Link- 'The devil wears prada' movie trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3L0ipDs8wk

“The Devil wears Prada” – The movie

If you have read the novel you will not be disappointed with the movie, if you didn’t read the novel…you do not want to miss the film.
Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is an important editor of an important fashion magazine, the Runway, in New York, USA. She is “the Devil”, she kind of imposes the fashion, she chooses what the designers should or not design, she’s a “workaholic” work addict and so she wants every employee to be like her, to dedicate their lives to work as she does, but this seems to show to everyone that she is an insensitive person and the worst person on earth.
Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a young woman who has just finished her degree in journalism and is trying to find a job as a journalist. She ended up in an interview in the Runway office, not for a Journalism job, but to be Miranda’s second assistant. She gets the job and only sees that as a way to get the job that she wants, at a newspaper or another type of magazine, because she doesn’t know nothing about Runway, she doesn’t even know who Amanda is (everyone at the fashion world does!), but she does get the job that “one million girls would die to had!” (Like everyone says to her).
The nightmare begins. Andy has to handle Amanda’s difficult mood every day and to attend to her whims, like pick up Starbuck’s coffees everyday, to pick up her laundry, and the final test that Amanda gives her to see if she really wants the job, to find a copy of the latest Harry Potter that is not on sale yet (better, two copies: one for each twin daughters of Amanda). Andy succefully gets the copies for the twins, and so the confidence of Amanda rises in Andy and instead of taking the first assistant with her, which is Emily (Emily Blunt) she decides that she wants Andy with her during the important fashion week in Paris.
Andy spends all day working, with her cell phone ringing every time (an annoying ring tone!) and because of the dedication to Amanda, Andy just starts losing her friends and boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier), (with whom she lives).
In Paris Andy realizes what type of woman Amanda is, and that she is beginning to become like her and so she leaves Amanda There and comes back to New York to star a different life: a little more fashionable now then when she started work at Runway, she gets a job on a newspaper edition as she always wanted.
“The Devil wears Prada” is a great adaptation from the novel from Lauren Weisberger . It is an amusing movie which shows us the fantastic world of fashion and the sacrifices that sometimes we need to make to stay in an important job.
The movie has some special appearances of designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Valentino Garavani or the special participation of Gisele Bündchen as the character Serena. The Soundtrack is very good and we can see a fantastic wardrobe and an excellent appearance of Meryl Streep.
It is not a marvelous movie but it worth the ticket price.

Carapace - Romesh Gunesekera

Two years after she had left Sri Lanka the same old known number had been in her heart and mind. She left her life behind and now it is scaring her to death in her dreams. Her life changed. Something is missing and she understood that not so long ago.
Australia, where she is living, is really wondrous. Her mother, the person who had convinced her to marry Anura Perera, double-crossed her. Her mother had seduced her daughter’s husband. Anura committed the only crime she considered the worst one. Now she knows what had been happening right under her nose.
She became having nightmares with Anura and Vijay. ‘Was this a dream?’ the puzzle is completed. She doesn’t have a mother.
The thoughts came right in her head. She always wanted someone to have a good time, someone who could hold her, talk to her, understanding one… She wondered if Anura is this kind of person. Not Anura neither Vijay. They are men.
Oh! Men… All she needs is someone to whom she could give herself but both disappointed her.
After she had had her head spinning around like crazy she took a decision, a big one. ‘If someone deserves me that someone will be discovered. What I’m going to do? I need my superman (Vijay)…please Save Me here I am.’
She phoned Vijay. ‘I mean everything that I said Vijay. I will do everything to be with you I promise you. There’s nothing I won’t do to spend my life by your side. I will never leave you. Say that you will be mine…I’m giving you my heart please take it and save room for my love in yours. It won’t hurt. I will never ever hurt you baby. Can’t you see I opened my heart? I don’t want anybody else, I want you. Save Me…I’m begging you. I never thought I would speak these words!!’
Months passed by. She was waiting, waiting on. Nothing changed.
Like every day else she went to the market very pleased to purchase a bunch of flowers… beautiful red flowers. But suddenly, on the street someone approached her and took her by the hand, guiding her into a black old car parked near them. She felt incredibly fine with her eyes blinded during the journey. She had the time to dream about what was happening and creating her own interesting story ever thought. The journey was calm. Nobody talked until a tall man started to talk with her, and this man gave her a photograph. She smiled, ‘This is where I grown up’. He answered: ‘It’s a little present for the rest of the journey’. They finally arrived at a big house, the biggest one she had ever seen. At the door was a man that she could distinguish. It was Vijay. When she approached him she started to ear her favourite song, (how she missed it), and at that moment she remembered her first kiss that she had forgotten since god knows well.
She only was capable of kissing him endlessly. He said ‘Do you want us to make things right?’ and he had the best answer he ever imagined. ‘I just want you to say you love me like I love you’. The latest words she was capable of understand were: ‘I tried to talk to you, close your eyes, hold my hand, touch me and hold me close; I want you to be my love. I will show you what I already know.’
She lived happily after all the suffering caused by her fear of living with her truly love.

The choice for that name ‘has to do with me’ says Farinha and he continues ‘when I was little, I had a t-shirt with two lemons that said squeeze theeze pleeze. Then, we decided to give that name to our band. We like it because of the phonetics conjugation of the z’s and the e’s.
Like all bands, these five boys – Assalino (vocals), Miro Vaz (guitar-player and producer), Pedro Fonseca (guitar-player), J.Boy and Farinha (bass)- who form Squeeze Theeze Pleeze have their own musical preferences. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus and also Foo Fighters are just some of the references that influence the music they make.
This band, with a music style of pop rock, has its latest album ‘Flatline’. Their first single was one of the sounds of the year 2003.
With their music in tv series such as “morangos com açucar” and with the single ‘Hi, Hello (my name is Joe)’ on the radio, they are widely recognized in Portugal.
Their first album ‘Ode to a child’ had great receptivity of the public as this new one Flatline has.
Sueeze Theeze Pleeze has the power of several bands – being heard by a mass society – however, they want to transmit feelings and sensations through their music.
Their music are daily histories that can be adapted to the life of each individual. People can identify themselves with what they are listening to or simply with what the music itself transmits.
Squeeze Theeze Pleeze is not only for a certain audience. It is for all ages.
Their second single ‘D Song’ will be released soon.
This band passed through good and bad experiences but it is still to give us all great music.

Stage 2 – review

Coyote Ugly (2000)

A sexy romantic comedy featuring an amazing soundtrack by LeAnn Rimes and others, “Coyote Ugly” is the story of a girl named Violet Sanford who decides to leave her life behind in south Amhoy, New Jersey, and moves to New York, the big city, to pursue her dream of becoming a songwriter. Her mother, who was a great singer too, died five years previously and her dad (Bill Sanford), and her best friend Gloria are the only ones who really care about her.
When she arrives in New York she knows almost nothing about the big city so she tries to find famous places where she can leave her recorder tapes with her songs for a famous person to find. Her wildest dream is to hear someone great sing her songs. She is graced with a velvet voice but she has stage fright so she can’t perform her songs herself. She meets Kevin O’Donnell, a young man who lies about his identity and makes her think he is a great producer in the music business. Later, he tells the truth and they begin to like each other.
One day, her apartment is broken into, and she is left with nothing even with the money that Gloria had given her. She goes to a snack bar to eat a slice of pie but she has no money. The barman, who sees her situation, says that the slice is on the house. In the same place, there are three beautiful girls (Rachel, Cammie and Zoe) celebrating about the money that they make in just one night of work. Violet sees them and gets to know that they are coyotes and that one of them is going to quit her job. With this job opening, Violet goes to this nightclub called Coyote Ugly, the hottest spot in town where those three beautiful women call the shots, use their female attraction to drive the guests just crazy, and speaks with its owner (Lil) and gets this job as an bar maid. Violet’s father does not like her new job as well as her leaving him, but it’s all part of growing up. Her “friend” Kevin helps her with her stage fright and she starts singing her own songs at “real” clubs.

Version 2

A few days later, Carlo went back to find her at that same place. He asked an old lady on the street if she knew a blond hair and large green eyes’ girl and she answered that she lived in number 5, Indian Plaza so he drove there. He rang the bell but nobody answered. He tried again until he heard a voice of a girl telling him to wait just a second. She opened the door and Carlo stopped and looked at her beauty. In that moment, he understood that he was in love. He truly loved a girl he barely knew. She told him to come in so he did. They talked for hours and she told him what he had guessed in first place, she had had a row with her boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) and he had left her there, freezing in the middle of the night. She started to cry but Carlo hold her in his arms and, just like that, they kissed. Carlo said everything he felt for her. She told him as well and they promised they would stay together as long as they liked each other, so they did.

Sam the Kid - Wikipedia (corrected)

Sam the Kid (Samuel Martins Torres Santiago Mira) was born on July 17th 1979 and is a Portuguese hip hop artist from Chelas, Lisbon. In 2001, Portuguese hip hop took off and one of the responsibles for this was Sam the Kid as well as names like Mind da Gap, Bullet, Chullage, Micro and Valete, among many others. His First album, Entre(tanto) has been available since 1999 but only in 2001, mostly due to his instrumental album "Beats Vol 1: Amor", did his name begin to expand out of his home base and into the homes of his faithful "followers" in the world of hip hop.

Influenced by the love story between his parents, "Beats Vol 1: Amor" convinced everyone without hesitation and was considered by many to be one of the best albums of the year in Portugal. It was recorded at home with many resourses, such as, samples of music, videos, soapoperas, and telephone calls, whether private ones or not. Sam the Kid threw down all the barriers between hip hop and was able to connect with a wider range of audience.

When the opportunity arose for Sam the Kid to release a debut album, he already had many recordings made at home, on casseste tapes, mini discs, CDs, and even his resourceful video camera. But it was only after hearing "93 Til Infinity" (1993) by Souls of Mischeif, did Sam begin to truley map out his future in the hip hop business. The radio was the first source used to connect with the public, with recordings that he had already done at home, mainly through the programme "Repto", dedicated to hip hop. A few years later, in 2001, after proving his extraordinary talent, and releasing two edited albums, Entre(tanto) and Sobre(tudo), the then recently created Loop:Recordings, by Rui Miguel Abreu, offered him a recording contract. Sam´s first bet was "Beats Vol 1: Amor", and since then he has been a household name. Sam the Kid´s new album, Pratica(mente) was launched in December of 2006 and is already considered to be one of the best Portuguese albums of the year.

Wikipedia Work - The Super Bock Super Rock Festival

Affirming itself as the precursor of the format of all the actual festivals of music that take place in Portugal, the Super Bock Super Rock festival it’s the only one that have been taking place during the passed 11 years, consequently, placing Portugal on the route of the great European music festivals.

The Super Bock Super Rock was the predecessor of the other music festivals, demonstrating that Portugal is a country that acquires human resources and structures of quality, that allow to receive great events and artist of international name, that throughout the years have been the best ambassadors of Portugal next to the musical industry at a world scale. The first editions of the festival allowed a contact with the Portuguese public, in a direction of knowing its profile, its tastes and habits of consumption, its behavior, helping to create a better way to attend to one public each way more informed and selective.

It all started in 1995, when some of the European countries had already made mega concerts (festivals), the company Unicer, in an association with the brand of beer Super Book, decided to produce a mega concert of two days, with a dozen of national and international bands, near the Tagus River, behind the Gare Marítima of Alcântara.

The first Super Bock Super Rock had open the way for Portugal to appear in the European circuit of summer festivals.

In this edition, 13 bands, 20 hours of music with artists like Yousson N’Dour, The Cure, Faith no More, Morphine or Young Gods, ended up in good critics from the media and the public in general.

The second edition took place the year after, 1996 at the Passeio Marítimo de Alcântara, on the 21st, 22nd and the 23rd of June.

This second Super Bock Super Rock was as great as the first one and had bring artist to Portugal such as David Bowie, The Prodigy, Neneh Cherry, massive Attack, Divine Comedy, between others.

At 1997 at Passeio Marítimo de Algés the mega concert was only two days of great music.

Two years had been enough to make this festival one reference of the biggest international music events. “(…) the Super Bock Super Rock festival is the pionner of the new era of festivals in Portugal – in Blitz * - 01.07.97 * Blitz- Portuguese music magazine.

Portugal had receive in 1998 the World exposition, the Expo’98, and in this year the festival had move to Parque das Nações (the area created to receive the Expo’98), more specifically, at Praça Sony.

By this time the Super Bock Super Rock was already one of the highest points of annual agenda of modern music in Portugal, seen as a spot were some of the greatest artist of the moment perform.

On this fourth edition, the Praça Sony was crowded with an enthusiastic audience assisting live to performances of Morphine, Fastball or Van Morrison.

At the fifth Super Bock Festival, the organization decided to revolutionize the cultural industry in Portugal, through the decentralization and diversification of the festival, make it happen in six different show rooms, three cities (Lisbon, Oporto and Gaia) in ten days.

From the 27th of June until the 6th of July it took place at Coliseum of Recreios, Aula Magna, Paradise Garage, Praça Sony, Oporto Coliseum and Hard Club. Dozens of concerts, different styles and music tendencies.

On 2000 the festival had been transformed into a real cultural event, with a total of 29 shows, 25 bands, 38 performances and 5 stages in three cities (Lisbon, Vila Nova de Gaia and Oporto).

It were two electrifying weeks, with the realization ok workshops about guitar, base, drumming and keyboards and one day dedicated to the era of cinema, the megamarathon of cinema (at Rivoli) had made the relationship between modern music and the seventh art (with movies chose by Mario Dorminsky) plus the seminars that took place at the Fnac store’s (at Lisbon and Oporto) which had marked the first serious attempt for a conversation about modern music at Portugal.

On this sixth edition the organization initiates the selling of Festival Tickets (passes) per rooms at competitive and economic prices, allowing the public the easy access to all shows.

Success? Clear and Absolute! And not only in public support but also in quality of the concerts, it will be difficult to forget the Beck party (that already had confessed that haven’t yet found public like the Portuguese one), the invasion of the stage by the Bush (that No Doubt had came to see acting), the triumphal reception of Da Weasel, Ornatos Violeta , Paralamas do Sucesso (with a legion of musicians watching the concert: Delfins, Rui Veloso, Xutos, between others) or the insane Bloodhound Gang.

The feedback of the 2000 festival was so positive that the expectations for the next one were higher, but the challenge was owned once again in 2001, not only because of the quality of the bands chosen and the prolongation of the seminars and workshops, but also because of the creations of the Super New Bands (Super Novas Bandas) and the tribute to The Beatles “Come Together”, one distinctive and unrepeatable musical event, specially produce by the Super Bock Super Rock team. Ala dos Namorados, Blind Zero, Clã, Mafalda Veiga, Rui Veloso, Silence 4 e Xutos e Pontapés were names invited to make parte f this special and never made event were versions of some classics of the band of Liverpool were played.

The Super New Bands was a project made to give opportunities to the Portuguese bands without a discography work already edited. With was a show of talent, an opportunity for the bands to show their value and to get out of anonymity.

The organization had received more than 300 k7 and 12 bands were chosen by a jury.

Nowadays famous bands like Toranja and Yellow W Van came up from this “talent contest”, the Super New Bands.

The winner had the chance to play at the festival.

The 8th edition ended up in apotheoses with the sound off the British band Muse, who had sold out the Aula Magna, at Lisbon.

With 32 shows, the edition of 2002 was the deepest of ever with an audience of 60.000 persons in total.

Like the edition of 2001, the Super Bock had once again chosen Portuguese bands to act at the festival, with the Super New Bands contest. Other Portuguese band had already participated on the Super New Bands edition of 2001.

On 2002 the festival had open doors and went to Coimbra and to Vigo in Spain, were the international band Scorpions had give a concert.

The next edition on 2003, the festival went to Madrid. With a diverse style of bands, like Coldplay, Beth Gibbons, Lemon Jelly, De La Soul and Charlie Brown Junior, the 9th edition of Super Bock Super Rock festival was a success and also arrived at Évora.

Thematic nights were created for this edition like “Electro night”, Hip Hop night” (in Lisbon and also in Oporto) and an “Iberian night” (in Lisbon and in Madrid).

The year of 2004 was a year of modifications. It was the year of the 10th anniversary and from 9th until 11th of June the festival took place at Parque Tejo (Tagus Park) at Parque das Nações, being the biggest and completed event of ever in Lisbon.

The date was well thinking, not to be coincident with the 2004 European Football Championship occurring in Portugal and so the festival was finished at the morning of the day of the begging of Euro 2004.

Taking place at Parque Tejo, in the most modern area of the city, near the Tagus River, served by the biggest net of public transportation (Gare do Oriente), with green spots, parking, good access, the 10th edition was prepared to receive not only the Portuguese people that were already familiar with the festival, but the international, the European tourists that arriving a few days before the Euro 2004 could appreciate a good Portuguese musical festival.

This edition return to the original format of three days at an open area near the Tagus River, with two stages: Principal Stage and Stage Quinta dos Portugueses (for Portuguese artists).

The commemoration of the 10th anniversary gave rise to a Super Bock Super Rock festival at Luanda, on the 30th if April with performances of artists such as Daniela Mercury, Tito Paris, Santos e Pecadores, Kataliana, Dog Hurras and Patricia Faria.

On 2005 the format was the same as the year before. During 3 days, on 2 different stages had passed band like The Prodigy, Moby, New Order, Audioslave, Incubus, the Gift, Boss AC or Blind Zero.

The 12th edition of the festival more good music as heard at Parque Tejo, and this time with significant improvements made at the infrastructures.

The festival took place during 4 days: 25th and 26th of May (Act 1) and 7th and 8th of June (Act 2).

Names like Korn, The Editors, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Keane, Boss AC, Pharrel appear at the artist list of this edition.

The last editions of the festival were produce by Musica no Coração, a Portuguese company of events organization.
