Assessment task 2

Stage 2 – review

Coyote Ugly (2000)

A sexy romantic comedy featuring an amazing soundtrack by LeAnn Rimes and others, “Coyote Ugly” is the story of a girl named Violet Sanford who decides to leave her life behind in south Amhoy, New Jersey, and moves to New York, the big city, to pursue her dream of becoming a songwriter. Her mother, who was a great singer too, died five years previously and her dad (Bill Sanford), and her best friend Gloria are the only ones who really care about her.
When she arrives in New York she knows almost nothing about the big city so she tries to find famous places where she can leave her recorder tapes with her songs for a famous person to find. Her wildest dream is to hear someone great sing her songs. She is graced with a velvet voice but she has stage fright so she can’t perform her songs herself. She meets Kevin O’Donnell, a young man who lies about his identity and makes her think he is a great producer in the music business. Later, he tells the truth and they begin to like each other.
One day, her apartment is broken into, and she is left with nothing even with the money that Gloria had given her. She goes to a snack bar to eat a slice of pie but she has no money. The barman, who sees her situation, says that the slice is on the house. In the same place, there are three beautiful girls (Rachel, Cammie and Zoe) celebrating about the money that they make in just one night of work. Violet sees them and gets to know that they are coyotes and that one of them is going to quit her job. With this job opening, Violet goes to this nightclub called Coyote Ugly, the hottest spot in town where those three beautiful women call the shots, use their female attraction to drive the guests just crazy, and speaks with its owner (Lil) and gets this job as an bar maid. Violet’s father does not like her new job as well as her leaving him, but it’s all part of growing up. Her “friend” Kevin helps her with her stage fright and she starts singing her own songs at “real” clubs.
